CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif announces abundant fertilizer availability and support for farmers in Punjab for the upcoming Rabi season.
In a significant announcement for the agricultural sector, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif declared that for the first time, fertilizers are abundantly available in the province for the Rabi season. This comes as a relief to farmers who have been struggling with high prices and limited access to essential agricultural inputs. During a special meeting focused on agriculture, the Chief Minister emphasized that the availability of fertilizers is crucial for ensuring a successful wheat cultivation season.
According to CM Maryam, there is a 30 percent increase in the stock of DAP fertilizer compared to previous years, and for the first time, a 17 percent reduction in its price has been observed during the wheat season. Furthermore, she noted that urea fertilizer is available at 125 percent more than the required amount, with a 25 percent decrease in its price across Punjab. This is a promising development for farmers who rely heavily on these fertilizers to boost their crop yields.
The Chief Minister set an ambitious wheat cultivation target of 16.5 million acres across Punjab, stating that 82 percent of the sowing target has already been achieved. She expressed confidence that the remaining sowing will be completed by December 10. Additionally, she highlighted that wheat cultivation on 326,000 acres of government land has been planned, which will further support the agricultural output of the province.
To assist farmers, CM Maryam announced the availability of 40,000 agriculture graduate interns who will provide on-ground support. Moreover, applications have been invited for a free grant of 1,000 green tractors and 1,000 land levelers specifically for wheat farmers under her initiative. This move is expected to enhance the efficiency of farming practices and improve overall productivity.
In her address, the Chief Minister also directed relevant authorities to enhance wheat storage capacity throughout the province, recognizing the importance of proper storage in preventing post-harvest losses. She commended the Agriculture Minister and his team for their diligent efforts in this regard, underscoring the government's commitment to supporting the agricultural community.
In a separate but equally important matter, CM Maryam expressed her condolences over the tragic martyrdom of four Rangers personnel, condemning the violent actions of miscreants who attempted to harm them. She questioned the morality of such acts, stating, "The martyrs were someone’s sons and brothers, injustice was done. Is killing and injuring others considered peaceful protest?" Her remarks reflect a deep concern for the safety and security of law enforcement personnel in the province.
Meanwhile, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has intensified its operations against commercial fee defaulters, sealing 174 properties across various locations in the city. This operation targeted areas such as Allama Iqbal Town, New Muslim Town, and Gulberg, among others. The properties sealed included schools, pharmacies, cafes, and shops that had previously received multiple notices for illegal commercial use and unpaid fees. The authorities have pledged to continue their strict enforcement against illegal commercial buildings, ensuring compliance with regulations.
The announcements made by CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif regarding fertilizer availability and support for farmers are promising steps towards enhancing agricultural productivity in Punjab. As the province gears up for the wheat season, these initiatives could play a pivotal role in ensuring food security and supporting the livelihoods of countless farmers. The government's proactive approach in addressing both agricultural needs and law enforcement challenges reflects a commitment to fostering a safer and more prosperous environment for all citizens.
