CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif increases Kissan cards to 0.75 million, enhancing support for Punjab farmers and boosting agricultural productivity.

In a significant move aimed at bolstering the agricultural sector in Punjab, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed an increase in the number of Kissan cards from 0.5 million to 0.75 million. This initiative is designed to accommodate a larger number of farmers, particularly those in non-computerized areas who will now be eligible for Kissan cards through physical verification. The Kissan card program is a vital step towards enhancing the livelihoods of farmers and ensuring they have access to essential agricultural resources.

Starting from November 20, farmers will be able to withdraw cash up to 30 percent of the total amount available on their Kissan cards. This feature will allow them to purchase agricultural inputs more conveniently. According to a spokesperson from the Agriculture Department, the Kissan card is expected to be a "game changer" for agricultural development and the prosperity of farmers in the region.

As of now, a staggering 1.29 million applications have been submitted through the online portal, with the Bank of Punjab approving approximately 487,000 of these applications. So far, over 361,000 Kissan cards have been issued to farmers, enabling them to access vital resources. The spokesperson further highlighted that farmers have already purchased agricultural inputs worth more than Rs 18 billion using their Kissan cards. This includes essential items such as seeds, fertilizers, and agro-medicines, which are crucial for successful farming.

The increase in Kissan cards not only reflects the government's commitment to supporting farmers but also addresses the pressing need for financial assistance in the agricultural sector. By facilitating easier access to funds and resources, the initiative aims to uplift the farming community, which is often the backbone of the economy. As farmers gain more financial independence and access to necessary tools, the overall agricultural productivity in Punjab is expected to rise.

The expansion of the Kissan card program is a promising development for the agricultural landscape in Punjab. It is a clear indication that the government is taking steps to empower farmers and enhance their economic stability. As this initiative unfolds, it will be interesting to observe its impact on the agricultural sector and the lives of countless farmers who depend on it for their livelihood.
