An investigation has been launched into a manipulated video falsely portraying Union Home Minister Amit Shah advocating the abolition of reservation quotas, sparking controversy and legal action against spreaders of misinformation.

An investigation has been initiated into a manipulated video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, which falsely portrayed him as advocating the abolition of all reservation quotas. The video, originally shared by the Congress' Telangana unit on social media, misrepresented Shah's statement regarding reservation quotas for Muslims in Telangana. The doctored video sparked controversy and led to accusations of inciting violence.

The Delhi Police, following complaints from the BJP and the Ministry of Home Affairs, has registered an FIR and launched a probe into the origins of the video. Sections 153, 153A, 465, 469, and 171G of the Indian Penal Code, along with section 66C of the Information Technology Act, have been invoked in the case.

The Ministry of Home Affairs highlighted the potential for the video to disrupt public harmony and urged legal action against those responsible for spreading misinformation. The doctored video falsely suggested that the BJP intended to revoke reservation provisions for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes.

Investigators are set to question individuals involved in sharing the video and serve notices to those responsible for its dissemination. The incident underscores the challenges posed by misinformation on social media platforms and the need for stringent measures to prevent the spread of fabricated content.
