The 17th meeting of the Pakistan Prosecution Forum, supported by UNODC and US Embassy, focuses on legal reforms and strengthening the prosecution system in Pakistan.

The Punjab Public Prosecution Department recently held the 17th meeting of the Pakistan Prosecution Forum (PPF), a significant initiative aimed at driving legislative and policy reforms within Pakistan's criminal justice system. This crucial gathering, supported by the U.S. Embassy's Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) and facilitated by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), brought together senior officials from prosecution and criminal justice sectors across Pakistan to address common challenges and share experiences.

Justice (retd) Khalil Ur Rehman Ramday, the Chief Guest at the forum, emphasized the importance of the PPF in shaping the legal landscape of the nation. He highlighted the commitment of the Government of Punjab to reform the Criminal Justice System while ensuring the rule of law in the province, particularly focusing on gender-specific needs.

The PPF serves as a vital national platform comprising leadership from each provincial prosecution department, advocating for essential reforms to enhance criminal justice service delivery. The UNODC plays a key role in supporting the forum's strategic functions, with provincial chapters hosting quarterly meetings to promote collaboration and knowledge sharing.

During the 17th meeting, the Punjab Public Prosecution Department showcased its flagship initiatives, including projects for capacity building, police training modernization, and the integration of case flow and prison management systems. These projects, funded by the US Embassy's INL office and implemented in coordination with UNODC, aim to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the prosecution system.

UNODC Advisor for Criminal Justice System and Legal Reforms, Arsalan Malik, expressed pride in supporting the PPF and reaffirmed the commitment to strengthening Pakistan's prosecution system. The collaborative efforts of all stakeholders underscore a shared dedication to advancing rule of law and justice in the country.
