Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa advocates for stronger parliament

Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa emphasized the need for a stronger parliament to counter the influence of external forces, during a hearing on Tuesday. The six-member larger bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, was addressing allegations of interference by spy agencies in judicial matters. Other members of the bench included Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Jamal Mandokhel.

Justice Isa stressed the importance of safeguarding the court against attacks, both internal and external. He disclaimed responsibility for the court's historical actions and invited suggestions for improvement. The Attorney General for Pakistan, Mansoor Usman Awan, admitted to not having read the Islamabad High Court's recommendations, prompting Justice Minallah to describe them as a 'charge sheet'.

The Supreme Court then directed the public release of the IHC's suggestions, with Justice Isa highlighting the importance of transparency in light of media coverage. The Attorney General was instructed to present the recommendations in court, underscoring the judiciary's commitment to openness and accountability.
