Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari announces plans to collaborate with provincial governments to address electricity losses in Pakistan, focusing on specific areas like Layari and Azam Basti. Efforts include involving law enforcement agencies, establishing a new board for governance improvement, and reducing loss rates to ensure a more reliable electricity supply.

Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari has announced plans to collaborate with provincial governments to address electricity losses in Pakistan. This decision comes in response to concerns raised in the National Assembly regarding un-scheduled loadshedding and overbilling by the Karachi Electric Supply Company in areas like Layari and Azam Basti.

Leghari stressed the importance of involving law enforcement agencies to tackle these issues effectively. He highlighted the challenges in controlling power problems without the cooperation of provincial governments and law enforcement. The minister also revealed intentions to establish a new board to improve governance in the power sector.

Focusing on Karachi, Leghari pointed out that electricity supply challenges in specific areas are leading to load-shedding. For example, in Azam Basti, three feeders serving 12,200 consumers result in 10-hour loadshedding due to losses. Efforts are underway to reduce the current loss rate of 38.3%.

In Layari, out of 82 feeders, 31 face no load-shedding, while others experience varying durations based on losses. Leghari provided insights into Karachi Electric's operations, mentioning that out of 2,109 feeders, 1,500 do not face loadshedding, while the rest are subject to load-shedding based on their loss rates.

The Sindh provincial government has taken proactive measures, including setting up over 3,000 minicamps in collaboration with Karachi Electric, to promote bill payment and reduce losses. In other legislative matters, private members' bills and amendments have been referred to relevant committees for further review.

Overall, the government's efforts to address electricity losses and improve governance in the power sector are crucial steps towards ensuring a more reliable and efficient electricity supply for the people of Pakistan.
