Three PML-N MNAs in Islamabad seek a change in the election tribunal, citing concerns over perceived bias and the need for a fair trial. The Election Commission will deliberate on their requests, emphasizing the importance of justice and impartiality in electoral matters.
Three members of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party in Islamabad, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Raja Khurram Nawaz, and Anjum Aqeel, who are also Members of the National Assembly (MNAs), have formally requested a change in the election tribunal due to concerns regarding perceived bias. They have expressed doubts about the fairness of the current tribunal's proceedings, fearing that their right to a fair trial, protected under Article 4 of the Constitution, may be compromised.
After securing seats in the 2024 general elections, the three petitioners are urging the tribunal to halt the handling of election petition No. 73 of 2024. They stress the significance of justice and impartiality in addressing their apprehensions. The Election Commission has set a hearing for June 4 to deliberate on the requests made by Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Anjum Aqeel, and Khurram Nawaz for a change in the tribunal overseeing their case.
Tomorrow, the commission will also assess the petition to transfer the case to a different tribunal, as indicated in its cause list.
The concerns raised by the PML-N members highlight the importance of ensuring a fair and unbiased legal process in electoral matters. It is crucial for all parties involved to have confidence in the transparency and integrity of the tribunal overseeing such cases to uphold the principles of justice and democracy.
