The National Economic Council in Pakistan, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, aims to enhance economic coordination and decision-making at the national level to promote sustainable growth and prosperity.

The National Economic Council (NEC) has been established in Pakistan by President Asif Ali Zardari, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appointed as its chairman. The council, created under Article 156 of the Constitution of Pakistan, comprises the chief ministers of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan as members. Additionally, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with federal ministers Khawaja Asif, Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Ahsan Iqbal, are part of this important economic body.

According to the official notification, the NEC will also include the Planning Commission's deputy chairman, finance secretary, secretary on economic affairs, and federal minister Ahad Cheema as attendees in council meetings upon special invitation. Moreover, four members nominated by the respective chief ministers have been appointed, including Senior Minister for Planning and Development Marriyum Aurangzeb, Minister for Irrigation of Sindh Jam Khan Shoro, Adviser to KP Chief Minister on Finance Muzammil Aslam, and Balochistan Minister for Planning and Development Zahoor Ahmed Buledi.

The inaugural meeting of the National Economic Council is set to take place on June 10, marking the beginning of collaborative efforts to address economic challenges and foster development in Pakistan.
