Sahibzada Tariqullah Urges Leaders to Halt Tax Imposition

Former National Assembly member Sahibzada Tariqullah has raised concerns over the government's plan to impose taxes on the residents of Upper Dir in the Malakand division. Tariqullah has urged leaders of the ruling parties to intervene and convince Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif to reconsider the decision, emphasizing the region's lack of essential infrastructure.

He pointed out a historical agreement exempting Dir, Chitral, and Swat from taxes for 99 years upon their merger with Pakistan. Tariqullah stressed the need for prioritizing basic amenities before enforcing taxes, warning of strong opposition if the government fails to address these concerns.

Highlighting his previous efforts for a five-year tax exemption, expiring on June 30, Tariqullah called on leaders like Bilawal Bhutto, Asif Ali Zardari, and Imran Khan to prevent tax implementation in Malakand division. He cautioned against potential unrest similar to recent events in Azad Kashmir, urging the government to resolve issues promptly to avoid escalation.

The opposition to proposed taxes in Malakand division reflects the residents' demand for improved infrastructure and basic services before additional financial burdens. It underscores the importance of addressing community needs and concerns to maintain peace and stability in the region.
