Senator Afnan Ullah Khan criticizes election of independent senators

PML-N Senator Afnan Ullah Khan has criticized the election of independent candidates as senators, labeling it as a continuation of the hybrid system. During an interview on Dawn News, Senator Khan expressed concerns over Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi being elected as a senator, stating that such appointments contribute to a weakened government.

Senator Khan emphasized the importance of addressing the public's needs over creating chaos, particularly in the current economic climate. He warned that individuals who undermine the Constitution will face accountability in due course, regardless of their political affiliations.

Referring to the hybrid system implemented in 2017, Senator Khan highlighted the challenges posed by allowing independents to become senators within the existing political framework. He acknowledged the decision to support independent candidates, attributing it to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's directive despite internal party opposition.

In response to queries about the potential consequences of not supporting independents, Senator Khan suggested that the economic situation would have deteriorated further, leading to increased instability.
