Microsoft Invests Billions in Sweden's AI Infrastructure

Microsoft has unveiled its ambitious plan to invest 33.7 billion kronor ($3.2 billion) in cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure in Sweden over the next two years. This move represents the tech giant's largest investment in the country and aims to revolutionize the AI landscape in Sweden.

The company's primary goal is to train 250,000 individuals by 2027 to bolster their AI knowledge and skills. Additionally, Microsoft plans to expand the capacity of its three data centers located in Sweden. This significant investment is geared towards establishing state-of-the-art AI data center infrastructure in the Scandinavian nation.

Brad Smith, Microsoft's President and Vice Chair, emphasized Sweden's progressive energy policies and abundant access to green energy as pivotal factors that have facilitated this substantial investment. The company's commitment to Sweden is in line with its recent AI investments in other countries like France and Japan.

In Sweden, Microsoft intends to deploy more than 20,000 graphic processing units (GPUs) for AI model training and enhance the capabilities of its data centers in Sandviken, Gavle, and Staffanstorp.
