Iran Mourns Fallen Guards in Syria Strike Fallout

Thousands gathered in Tehran to bid farewell to seven Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps members killed in a recent strike in Syria, with Iran pointing fingers at Israel for the attack. The fallen Guards, including two generals, lost their lives in an airstrike that also destroyed the Iranian embassy's consular annex in Damascus. While Israel has remained silent on the incident, experts view it as a significant escalation in its efforts against Iran and its allies, potentially heightening tensions in the region.

The funeral ceremony took place on the same day as the annual Quds (Jerusalem) Day, a time when Iran and its supporters hold marches in solidarity with the Palestinian cause. Similar rallies were scheduled in countries like Syria and Lebanon. Among the deceased were two brigadier generals from the Quds Force, Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi and Mohammad Reza Zahedi. Zahedi, who served as the Quds Force commander for Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon, was a key figure within the Guards, with over 40 years of military experience.

The coffins of the fallen soldiers were solemnly placed on trucks in a prominent square in Tehran, as mourners waved Iranian and Palestinian flags, along with banners representing Hezbollah. The crowd echoed chants of 'Death to Israel!' and 'Death to America!' underscoring the strong anti-Israel and anti-US sentiments prevalent among the attendees.
