Stampede at Religious Event Claims 60 Lives in Hathras

At least 60 individuals tragically lost their lives and many others sustained injuries in a devastating stampede that occurred during a religious event in a village in the Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh, India. The incident unfolded approximately 350 kilometers southwest of Lucknow, the state capital.

The chaos ensued when a large crowd hurriedly tried to exit a temporary tent following a program featuring the revered Hindu figure Bhole Baba. The tent collapsed under the immense pressure, triggering panic and disorder among the attendees. The overcrowding exacerbated the situation, as the event, which was authorized for 5,000 participants, drew a staggering 15,000 individuals.

Eyewitnesses recounted a distressing scene of people falling over each other, resulting in tragic fatalities and numerous injuries. The aftermath involved the transportation of bodies to medical facilities and morgues, with over 150 individuals in need of medical care.
