Deputy Prime Minister Dar Leads Aviation Sector Developments

The recent 10th Steering Committee Meeting on the outsourcing of airports in Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore shed light on significant developments in the aviation sector. Chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, the meeting aimed to enhance airport services and customer experience across Pakistan.

Key attendees included Minister for Defence and Aviation Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar, Secretary Aviation Saif Anjum, officials from the Board of Investment, Civil Aviation Authority, and a team from the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

The meeting focused on the progress of outsourcing Islamabad International Airport, with the IFC team presenting a detailed report. The bid closing date for potential investors is set for July 15, 2024, fostering healthy competition among local and foreign consortia. Additionally, advancements in outsourcing Lahore and Karachi airports were reviewed, with the committee expressing satisfaction with the current pace of developments.

Looking ahead, the concession structure for Lahore and Karachi airports is slated for finalization by mid-August this year. The overarching objective of outsourcing Islamabad International Airport is to elevate service standards to a world-class level, ensuring a superior customer experience for all passengers.
