The Federal Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Minister, Prof Ahsan Iqbal, chaired the inaugural meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Chinese Investment Projects, focusing on enhancing the progress of projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The committee, comprising nine federal ministers, aims to expedite the execution of Chinese investment projects and ensure the safety of Chinese nationals.

During the meeting, Minister Ahsan Iqbal stressed the importance of conducting a research study on successful export processing zones in neighboring countries to replicate their efficiency in Pakistan. He emphasized the need for providing affordable electricity to special economic zones and increasing Pakistan's exports from $30 billion to $100 billion to bolster national security and sustainable economic development.

Ahsan Iqbal highlighted the underutilization of private companies' potential in contributing to national economic growth and called for a comprehensive national trade, industrial, and business strategy. He also underscored the significance of high-level exchanges between Pakistan and China in enhancing bilateral trade relations.

The minister expressed optimism about the transformative impact of the second phase of CPEC on economic development through collaboration in trade, industry, and infrastructure. He urged Pakistan to prioritize its own interests and enhance security measures for Chinese workers and officials by leveraging modern technology to monitor and counter non-state threats.

Ahsan Iqbal cautioned against impeding citizens' activities in the name of security, as it could tarnish Pakistan's international image. The committee's proactive approach signifies a strategic shift towards maximizing the benefits of Chinese investments and fostering sustainable economic growth in the region.
