Pakistan Tobacco Company Limited introduces 'Made in Pakistan 3.0' to export Velo nicotine pouches to Japan, aiming for significant revenue growth and economic impact.

Pakistan Tobacco Company Limited (PTC) has unveiled its latest initiative, 'Made in Pakistan 3.0,' with the goal of exporting its innovative oral tobacco-free nicotine pouches, Velo, to the Japanese market. This strategic move is projected to bring in approximately $100 million in annual export revenue. The launch event, graced by Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and industry representatives, marks a significant milestone for PTC.

As Pakistan's pioneering multinational corporation, PTC has been a key player in bolstering the country's economy. Over the past five years, the company has contributed more than Rs 680 billion to the national exchequer and was honored with the prestigious 'Highest Taxpayers Award' in 2024 for its substantial fiscal contributions.

In April 2019, PTC kickstarted the 'Made in Pakistan' project, focusing on exporting cigarettes and processed tobacco, which has already yielded over $157 million, providing a substantial boost to the Pakistani economy. Building on this success, the 'Made in Pakistan 3.0' initiative aims to further enhance Pakistan's economic standing.

The introduction of nicotine pouches into the Japanese market signifies PTC's commitment to innovation and growth, with the potential to generate an additional $50 million annually through foreign exchange earnings.

Federal Minister Jam Kamal underscored the significance of the 'Made in Pakistan 3.0' initiative, highlighting PTC's dedication to economic advancement and Pakistan's capacity to deliver top-notch products to the global market. He commended the government's backing for major investors in the country.

Michael Dijanosic, the Regional Director for Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa at British American Tobacco Group, expressed pride in PTC's expansion into international markets, particularly Japan. This move solidifies the partnership between BAT and Pakistan, opening up new revenue streams and opportunities.

PTC's Managing Director and CEO, Ali Akbar, conveyed his excitement about broadening their market reach with Velo and contributing further to Pakistan's economic progress. He stressed the importance of sensible regulations to ensure the long-term success and sustainability of this business segment.
