UMT President Urges Pakistan to Boost IT Exports

The President of the University of Management and Technology (UMT) recently addressed the pressing need for an emergency plan to enhance IT exports in Pakistan. He emphasized the importance of setting a substantial target of $20 billion from IT exports, achievable through the training of one million software engineers and IT freelancers. The President also proposed the establishment of an IT university in each district to foster collaboration among provincial governments and boost IT exports.

Additionally, he recommended increasing the number of shifts in educational institutions to ensure quality education for 100 students in key fields like BS Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, and AI. The President highlighted the crucial roles of the National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC) and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in advancing the IT sector. He stressed the need for updating curricula and enhancing faculty development programs to elevate educational standards.

Comparing Pakistan to India, the President pointed out India's progress in creating one million new IT jobs to achieve $36 billion in IT exports within the next 18 months. India's IT exports have significantly surpassed Pakistan's, reaching an estimated $172 billion to $193 billion. Urging the Pakistani government to take decisive actions, the President emphasized the vital role of the IT industry in the country's future development and prosperity.

With strategic initiatives such as training more IT professionals, establishing IT universities, and enhancing educational standards, Pakistan can pave the way for economic growth and technological advancement.
