The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan collaborates with Uzbekistan to boost meat exports. Inspection of Pakistani slaughterhouses by Uzbek delegation aims to enhance trade relations.

The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) is actively collaborating with the Pakistan Mission in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to enhance meat exports. A delegation from the State Veterinary Department of Uzbekistan is currently on a visit to Pakistan from June 23, 2024, to July 7, 2024. Their primary goal is to inspect and register slaughterhouses in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and Nowshera to cater to the growing demand from Uzbekistan.

Before this visit, only five Pakistani slaughterhouses were authorized for export. However, following the market access gained in 2022, meat exports surged from $10.52 million in FY 2022 to $13.55 million in FY 2023-24. The Uzbek delegation has already assessed seven slaughterhouses in Karachi and is currently evaluating six more in Lahore before proceeding to Peshawar, Nowshera, and Islamabad.

The inspectors have shown contentment with the advanced meat processing facilities they have observed, indicating positive outcomes from this visit. This endeavor is anticipated to further elevate export volumes, solidifying Pakistan's role as a significant meat supplier to Uzbekistan and ensuring sustained growth in this market.

Mr. Zubair Motiwala, Chief Executive of TDAP, has underscored the dedication to enhancing Pakistan's meat export potential through strategic alliances and adherence to international standards. He has expressed optimism that the visit by the Uzbek delegation will open up new avenues for exporters and bolster trade ties between the two nations.

The ongoing collaboration between Pakistan and Uzbekistan in the meat export sector signifies a promising trajectory for bilateral trade relations. With a focus on quality and compliance, this partnership is poised to benefit both countries economically while meeting the increasing demand for Pakistani meat in Uzbekistan.
