Arrest warrants issued for PkMAP chief Achakzai over illegal land occupation in Quetta, sparking controversy and opposition condemnation.

A judicial magistrate in Quetta has issued arrest warrants for Pashtunkhawa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai in connection with charges of illegal occupation of government land. The warrants were issued after Achakzai failed to appear before the authorities in a case registered against him under Sections 447 and 448 of the Pakistan Penal Code for criminal trespass.

The district administration alleged that Achakzai had illegally occupied an area of 2.5 kanals of government land encircled by a boundary wall. Despite the warrants, Achakzai, who is also the presidential candidate of the PTI, has not been arrested yet.

Meanwhile, Achakzai, who recently led a meeting of the Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aain (TTA) opposition alliance, clarified that the alliance was formed to address the current crises in Pakistan and not to spread hatred against any state institution. The TTA, comprising six parties including PTI and Jamaat-e-Islami, condemned the arrest warrants against Achakzai as an attempt to silence opposition voices.

The PkMAP, in a statement, criticized the government and police for what they termed as political victimization. The Quetta Bar Association also denounced the arrest warrants, labeling them as an act of high-handed tactics against the opposition.

The issuance of arrest warrants against Mahmood Khan Achakzai has sparked controversy and drawn criticism from opposition parties and legal associations. The situation remains tense as the police have been directed to arrest Achakzai and present him before the court. The political landscape in Balochistan is likely to witness further developments as the opposition alliance and government clash over the legal proceedings against the PkMAP chief.
