A long march organized by the Awami Action Committee (AAC) in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has sparked tensions as demonstrators protest high electricity bills and taxes. The march, heading towards Muzaffarabad, has caused disruptions along the Kohala–Muzaffarabad Road, leading to sit-ins and a four-day wheel-jam strike. The escalating situation has prompted the deployment of Rangers and police forces following clashes in Mirpur that resulted in casualties and injuries.

Security measures have been intensified with police presence at key locations, closures of markets and educational institutions, and suspension of transportation services. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for a high-level meeting to address the unrest, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards violence. President Asif Ali Zardari has advocated for restraint and dialogue to seek peaceful resolutions.

The AAC leadership has condemned the violence during protests, reiterating the peaceful nature of their movement. What began as demonstrations against electricity price hikes and taxes has escalated into clashes with authorities, leading to market closures and disruptions. Mobile phone and internet services have been suspended in various parts of AJK, including Mirpur, as tensions continue to rise.

The ongoing protests in AJK highlight the importance of peaceful dialogue and resolution of grievances. As the situation unfolds, it is crucial for all parties to prioritize non-violent means of communication and seek solutions through constructive engagement. The authorities and protesters must work towards a peaceful resolution to ensure the well-being and safety of all individuals in the region.
