Bilawal Bhutto Stresses Press Freedom Support

Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has reiterated the party's unwavering support for press freedom on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day. Emphasizing the crucial role of a free and independent press in upholding democracy, Bilawal Bhutto highlighted the significance of press freedom in promoting transparency, accountability, and the exchange of diverse ideas within society.

He underlined that safeguarding press freedom is not only a fundamental aspect of democracy but also a responsibility that every democratic government and party should uphold. Recognizing the historical role of the press in Pakistan as a watchdog exposing injustices and amplifying marginalized voices, he expressed concern over challenges such as censorship, fake news, and violence faced by journalists.

Bilawal Bhutto urged media organizations to maintain journalistic integrity, impartiality, and professionalism in their reporting. He referenced the constitutional guarantee of freedom of expression, including press freedom, as a legacy of prominent leaders such as Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Prime Minister Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.

Highlighting the efforts of past leaders in liberalizing media policies and promoting press freedom, Bilawal Bhutto reaffirmed PPP's solidarity with journalists in conflict zones like Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and Gaza, Palestine. He concluded by calling for the empowerment of journalists to navigate the realms of truth fearlessly, shaping a brighter future for all through the torch of press freedom.
