Forest fires pose a significant threat to the lush greenery of Malakand Division, prompting the Divisional Forest Fire Management Team to take proactive measures. Led by Commissioner Malakand Division, a recent meeting in Saidu Sharif brought together key officials to strategize on forest fire prevention.

During the meeting, it was highlighted that over 1 million acres of forest land and 671,664 acres of private forest land have been successfully protected in the region. The team's focus on swift response was evident in the containment of a recent fire incident in Lower Dir district.

To bolster response capabilities, a rapid response team has been formed, comprising dedicated forest personnel. Additionally, 85 hotspots have been identified across the division, with special attention given to vulnerable districts like Buner, Lower Dir, Malakand, and Upper Swat.

Efforts to map water resources within forests have been instrumental in fire prevention strategies. Commissioner Malakand Division's directive to ban fires within 500 meters of forest areas under Section 144 underscores the seriousness of the initiative. Specialized committees will be tasked with investigating fire occurrences and monitoring temperature levels in each district.

Plans are in motion to establish camps near identified hotspots for swift response to forest fires. These comprehensive measures aim to fortify forest fire prevention and management in the region, ensuring the preservation of valuable natural resources and biodiversity.

The collaborative efforts of the Divisional Forest Fire Management Team, under the guidance of Commissioner Malakand Division, signify a proactive approach towards safeguarding the region's forests. By implementing stringent measures, mapping resources, and establishing rapid response mechanisms, the team is poised to effectively combat forest fires and protect the ecological richness of Malakand Division.
