Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah announces a project to reconstruct 2.1 million houses for flood victims, with a focus on water, sanitation, and hygiene interventions, supported by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

The Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, has announced a significant initiative to reconstruct 2.1 million houses to aid over 12.6 million people impacted by floods in the province. This project aims to provide much-needed assistance to those affected by the devastating floods of 2022.

The government has allocated a budget of Rs 39 billion for Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) interventions, focusing on ensuring safe sanitation facilities for 264,250 households. The total estimated cost for constructing the 2.1 million houses is Rs 550 billion, with Rs 440 billion already secured through government and donor agency funding.

Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari played a crucial role in mobilizing funds at international conferences, enabling the commencement of this ambitious reconstruction project. The initiative not only aims to rebuild houses but also to create resilient communities by improving essential facilities like water, sanitation, and hygiene.

Moreover, the project is set to boost the local economy by generating billions of rupees and will incorporate solar energy solutions by providing 200,000 solar panels for the reconstructed houses. Despite pending approvals and commitments, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah remains optimistic about the successful completion of the project.
