Commissioner Mariyam Khan of Multan Division recently met with industrialists and traders at the Multan Chamber of Commerce to discuss the upcoming Gymkhana project on Matital road. The primary focus of the meeting was to address the environmental impact of plastic shopping bags and seek cooperation from the trading community in reducing their usage.

The proposed Gymkhana project, set to be located near the South Punjab Secretariat, aims to acquire land from the Labour department. Commissioner Khan urged businesses to contribute to the project's construction and assured that civic issues would be resolved to enhance the quality of life for citizens.

Efforts will also be directed towards increasing plantation to combat climate change challenges. Various concerns were raised during the meeting, including deteriorating roads, sanitation issues at public facilities, and difficulties in obtaining permits for building reconstruction.

Traders emphasized the necessity of widening the MDA to Lodhi Colony road, with available funds for its expansion. President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mian Rashid Iqbal, expressed willingness to phase out plastic bags but called for a shift in government policies regarding single-use plastic materials.

The business community commended Commissioner Khan for actively engaging with their concerns and viewed the visit to MCCI as a positive step towards fostering collaboration between the government and the business sector.

Commissioner Khan's meeting with traders highlighted the importance of environmental sustainability and community involvement in developmental projects. The discussions held at the Multan Chamber of Commerce signify a promising partnership between the government and local businesses, aiming to address pressing issues and enhance the overall well-being of the region.
