The Court of Cassation in Amman upholds a drug dealer's conviction for possessing illegal narcotics, emphasizing the seriousness of drug-related offenses and the importance of law enforcement efforts in combating drug trafficking.

In a recent ruling, the Court of Cassation in Amman affirmed a decision by the State Security Court to convict a drug dealer for possessing illegal narcotics. The defendant, who was caught attempting to sell drugs to an undercover agent in the Marka neighborhood, was initially sentenced to five years in prison and fined JD5,000. However, the court later reduced the fine to JD3,500 and the prison term to three years and four months to provide the defendant with an opportunity for rehabilitation.

The Anti-Narcotics Department uncovered the defendant's illegal activities and conducted an undercover operation that led to the arrest. Despite the defendant's lawyer arguing insufficient evidence and claiming the drugs were for personal use, the higher court upheld the sentence due to the defendant's voluntary confession.

The judges from the Court of Cassation involved in the case include Mahmoud Ebtoush, Hayel Amr, Majid Azab, Fawzi Nahar, and Mohammad Shreiri.

The Court of Cassation's decision to uphold the drug dealer's sentence highlights the seriousness of drug-related offenses in Jordan. This case serves as a reminder of the consequences individuals face when engaging in illegal drug activities. It also underscores the importance of law enforcement efforts in combating drug trafficking and protecting communities from the harmful effects of narcotics.
