Hyderabad is facing a severe water shortage crisis due to prolonged power outages affecting the operations of the Hyderabad Water and Sewerage Board Corporation (HWSBC). Efforts to restore normal water supply are hindered by frequent load shedding and unscheduled power cuts, highlighting the critical need for reliable power supply for essential services like water treatment and distribution.

Hyderabad is currently grappling with a severe water shortage problem as a result of prolonged power outages impacting the operations of the Hyderabad Water and Sewerage Board Corporation (HWSBC). The filtration plants and pumping stations managed by the agency are experiencing disruptions due to these power outages, leading to irregular water supply in different areas of the city.

The HWSBC has sought assistance from the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) to tackle the issue of frequent load shedding and unscheduled power cuts. The Corporation's spokesperson emphasized that the already challenging situation has been worsened by the hot and humid weather conditions, making it difficult to maintain a continuous water supply.

Efforts have been made to provide electricity to three water filtration plants using alternate feeders. However, simultaneous outages occurring during the same hours have nullified this backup plan. Typically, the Corporation takes 2 to 3 days to restore normal water supply following a shortage, but the persistent outages are impeding their restoration efforts even after this timeframe.

HESCO announced an extended outage for the New Shahbaz and Bhitai Feeders on June 29, but the supply was reinstated earlier than planned, causing further disruptions to the filtration plants' operations.

The water shortage crisis in Hyderabad underscores the critical importance of reliable power supply for essential services like water treatment and distribution. It is imperative for authorities to address the root causes of these power outages promptly to prevent further disruptions to the city's water supply. Citizens are urged to conserve water and cooperate with the relevant agencies during this challenging period.
