SIDA issues warning to farmers as water flow at Kotri Barrage expected to drop, impacting irrigation activities. Farmers urged to conserve water and adopt sustainable practices.

The Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority (SIDA) has issued a warning to farmers in the region as the water flow at the upstream Kotri Barrage is anticipated to decrease significantly. This reduction is a result of the discharge downstream of the Sukkur Barrage being slashed to just 18,000 cusecs. The current water flow at Kotri Barrage, which was recorded at 80,516 cusecs on Friday, is expected to drop further in the coming days.

This impending decrease in water flow is likely to have a direct impact on the water levels in the Akram and Phuleli canals, affecting irrigation activities in the area. Farmers are urged to take precautions and prepare for potential water shortages at the barrage. SIDA advises farmers to conserve water and refrain from wasteful practices in irrigation drains to help offset the effects of the reduced water flow.

In light of these developments, it is crucial for farmers to be vigilant and proactive in managing their water resources efficiently. By implementing water-saving techniques and adopting sustainable irrigation practices, farmers can better cope with the challenges posed by the diminishing water flow at the Kotri Barrage. Cooperation and coordination among stakeholders will be essential in ensuring the sustainable use of water resources for agricultural purposes in the region.
