The Jammu and Kashmir administration is spearheading tourism growth by establishing district-level committees to identify land for 5-star hotels, focusing on infrastructure development to cater to the increasing number of domestic and international tourists.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has taken a significant step towards enhancing tourism in the Union Territory by forming district-level committees to identify land for the construction of 5-star hotels. This move comes in response to the recent surge in tourism, with a notable increase in the number of tourists, including a substantial influx of foreign visitors, expected by mid-May.

As per an order issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) on May 30, 2024, the district committees, led by deputy commissioners, have been tasked with the responsibility of locating suitable land for the development of 5-star hotels. These committees, comprising officials such as the Director of Tourism and Chief Town Planner, will assess factors like accessibility and existing infrastructure to determine the ideal sites for the hotels.

The proposals prepared by the district committees will be forwarded to the Tourism department through the Divisional Commissioners. These proposals will outline the chosen locations for the hotels, emphasizing factors like proximity to tourist attractions and road connectivity. The focus on enhancing infrastructure is crucial to accommodate the growing number of tourists, particularly those from South East Asian countries.

Officials stress the importance of expanding the availability of 5-star accommodations in Jammu and Kashmir to cater to the diverse needs of visitors, including foreign tourists and business travelers. The successful hosting of the G-20 summit last year has played a significant role in attracting more international tourists to the region. With plans to welcome over 2.5 crore tourists this year, J&K aims to set a new record in tourism.

The efforts undertaken by the Jammu and Kashmir administration to establish 5-star hotels reflect a strategic approach to boost tourism and accommodate the increasing number of visitors to the region. By focusing on infrastructure development and expanding accommodation options, J&K aims to further enhance its appeal to both domestic and international tourists, setting the stage for continued growth in the tourism sector.
