The District Administration in Hyderabad has cut prices of staple bread items to protect consumers and ensure fair pricing, with strict enforcement measures in place.

In a bid to regulate prices and protect consumers from overcharging, the District Administration in Hyderabad has taken a significant step by fixing the prices of staple bread items. The prices of Chapati, Tandoori Roti, and Tandoori Naan have been slashed by almost half from the prevailing market rates.

According to a recent notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Tariq Qureshi, the price of Tandoori Roti and Chapati, weighing 100 grams each, has been set at Rs15. Similarly, the rate for Tandoori Naan, weighing 120 grams, has been fixed at Rs18. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of displaying the price list prominently to ensure compliance by shopkeepers and avoid any punitive actions by the local administration.

Shopkeepers operating Tandoor and Sheermal shops have been sternly instructed not to overcharge customers, with the warning of legal consequences for non-compliance with the officially mandated prices. The public has been encouraged to report instances of overcharging by hotels or Naan shops to the District Commissioner's Office or Assistant Commissioner's offices.

Deputy Commissioner Tariq Qureshi has directed Assistant Commissioners to conduct regular inspections of Sheermal, Naan shops, and hotels within their jurisdictions, in collaboration with the Weights and Measurement Department officials, to ensure adherence to the price regulations. The price adjustments come in the wake of reduced rates of flour bags, with wholesale and retail prices of wheat and flour fixed at Rs103 and Rs108 per kilogram, and Atta Chakki and flour set at Rs111 per kg and Rs116 per kg, respectively.

This move by the District Administration aims to create a fair pricing environment for essential food items and protect consumers from exploitation, ultimately promoting transparency and accountability in the local food market.
