Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique leads a meeting emphasizing heightened surveillance, accurate reporting, and collaboration for innovative dengue prevention strategies in Punjab.

Recently, Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique spearheaded a comprehensive evaluation of the ongoing initiatives aimed at combating dengue in the region. The meeting, held at the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Shalimar Town, highlighted the pressing need for heightened surveillance measures to curb the spread of the disease.

Minister Rafique underscored the significance of monitoring potential dengue hotspots, such as graveyards, tire shops, mosques, under-construction buildings, and educational institutions. He urged officials at all levels to escalate their anti-dengue activities and proactively work towards preventing the virus's transmission.

During the session, Minister Rafique emphasized the importance of detecting larvae and strictly enforcing standard operating procedures by anti-dengue teams. He also stressed the crucial role of public cooperation in implementing preventive measures effectively.

AC Dr. Anam Fatima provided a detailed overview of the anti-dengue operations conducted from January 1 to May 17, 2024. Minister Rafique emphasized the need for accurate reporting of all dengue cases, including suspected, probable, and confirmed instances. He mandated the documentation of all anti-dengue initiatives on a centralized dashboard for improved monitoring and coordination.

Moreover, the Minister advocated for the active participation of focal persons from various departments in district and regional anti-dengue meetings. Professor Waseem Akram, heading the Research & Development Cell for Dengue Research in Punjab, highlighted the importance of a collaborative approach and the introduction of an innovative dengue control model.

The meeting also saw contributions from Director CDC Dr. Yadullah, CEO Lahore Dr. Faisal, and representatives from departments like Agriculture, Environment, LESCO, Forestry, Education, and the Punjab Food Authority. Professor Waseem Akram joined remotely, ensuring diverse perspectives in shaping the anti-dengue strategy.

The session reaffirmed the commitment to prioritize a clean and green Punjab, aligning with the vision set forth by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
