Punjab Health Minister Unveils Motorway Emergency Services Initiative

The Punjab Health Minister, Khawaja Salman Rafique, unveiled a new initiative to enhance emergency services along the province's motorways during a recent conference. The plan includes deploying a rescue vehicle every thirty kilometers to ensure swift assistance in case of accidents or medical emergencies. This move is part of the Punjab government's broader efforts to improve healthcare services across the region, with a specific focus on eradicating polio and strengthening vaccination programs.

During his address at the CEOs and Medical Superintendents Conference, Minister Rafique emphasized the government's commitment to upgrading healthcare facilities under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. He highlighted the need to address health challenges, especially with the looming threat of diseases like dengue as the rainy season approaches. The minister reassured continuous efforts, even during holidays, to address health issues promptly.

In response to the existing challenges in the health sector, the minister pledged to crack down on unqualified medical practitioners and prioritize the completion of hospital renovation projects and the establishment of new clinics. Punjab Secretary Health, Ali Jan Khan, also addressed concerns regarding medicine shortages in government hospitals and outlined ongoing projects to support patients with various conditions, including heart diseases, tuberculosis, and hepatitis.

The conference also underscored the urgency of controlling diseases such as measles, Congo, and cholera, with a specific focus on combating the Congo virus in the near future. Minister Rafique warned of potential actions against underperforming Medical Superintendents to ensure efficient healthcare delivery. Key health officials, including Special Secretaries and Additional Secretaries, as well as district health leaders, participated in the conference to discuss strategies for improving healthcare services in Punjab.
