Secretary leads efforts to end corporal punishment in schools

An important meeting took place at the Pakistan Manpower Institute Building in Islamabad to address the pressing issue of corporal punishment in schools. Chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, the meeting highlighted the urgency of safeguarding children's rights by putting an end to corporal punishment.

The discussions primarily revolved around devising effective strategies for implementing the corporal punishment Act to ensure the safety and well-being of every child. Proposed measures include launching awareness campaigns, conducting a baseline survey to gauge the prevalence of corporal punishment, organizing workshops for students, teachers, parents, and the community, installing complaint boxes in schools, forming disciplinary committees, and appointing a director in each Directorate.

Moreover, a dedicated hotline will be established for students and parents to confidentially report any instances of corporal punishment. The participants of the meeting reiterated their commitment to rigorously enforce the corporal punishment Act to protect children within educational environments.

The collective efforts showcased during the meeting signify a significant step towards creating safer and more nurturing learning environments for children.
