Sindh Fisheries Institute Initiates Groundbreaking Community Empowerment Projects

During a recent visit to the Fisheries Aquaculture Research Institute in Chilya, the Sindh Provincial Advisor for Livestock and Fisheries unveiled a series of ambitious projects aimed at revolutionizing the fisheries sector and uplifting local communities. The inspection of the Fisheries Training Center showcased state-of-the-art facilities, including modern laboratories, advanced biofloc systems, and cutting-edge breeding units. The Director General of Fisheries provided a comprehensive overview of the industry's current landscape and the wide variety of fish species being cultivated.

One of the key highlights of the visit was the government's firm commitment to combating poverty among fisher families. Through the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), plans were announced to distribute a minimum of 50 chickens to deserving women. This initiative, focused on addressing malnutrition by providing eggs for children's nutrition, is expected to significantly improve local health outcomes.

In a bid to encourage the expansion of fish farming, innovative strategies were revealed to lease large tracts of unused land across Sindh to fishers for extended periods of up to 30 years. Individuals interested in fish farming will receive comprehensive training and technical support, coupled with a substantial 75% subsidy on land leasing costs.

The initiatives introduced during the visit to the Fisheries Aquaculture Research Institute in Chilya mark a significant step towards revitalizing the fisheries sector in Sindh and empowering local communities.
