Thunderstorms in West Bengal claim six lives

Thunderstorms struck the southern part of West Bengal on Monday, claiming the lives of six individuals. While providing relief from the prolonged heatwaves, these storms also caused significant damage to infrastructure and disruptions in flight operations. The districts most severely affected by the thunderstorms were Nadia, Purulia, and Purba Bardhaman. The impact on train services was notable, with suburban trains along the Sealdah-Canning line coming to a halt. Additionally, flights bound for Kolkata had to be diverted due to the adverse weather conditions.

The weather forecast indicates that thunderstorms in Bengal are expected to persist until May 10. Similar weather patterns are anticipated for the next three to four days, with the likelihood of moderate to heavy rainfall. Residents and authorities are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of these ongoing weather disturbances.
