Transgender group vandalizes police station in response to mistreatment

On Sunday, an incident of vandalism occurred at Saddar Police Station in Kharian tehsil of Gujrat district, where a group of transgender persons took drastic action in response to alleged torture and illegal detention by the police.

According to reports, the confrontation began when police personnel stopped a few transgender individuals on their way home after a late-night function and attempted to conduct a body search. A scuffle ensued as the transgender persons resisted the search, leading to their forcible transfer to the police station by paramilitary forces. Subsequently, the transgender individuals were reportedly subjected to physical abuse while in custody.

Upon learning of the situation, a group of transgender persons, led by their 'guru,' gathered outside the police station and engaged in acts of vandalism, including throwing stones and destroying property within the premises. Video footage of the incident captured the intense confrontation, showing the transgender individuals forcibly removing a police official from the station.

In response to the incident, the transgender community staged a sit-in and blocked the GT Road in Kharian as a form of protest. Local authorities have initiated an inquiry into the matter, with assurances of disciplinary action against any police officers found to be involved in the mistreatment of the transgender persons.

The events at Saddar Police Station highlight the tensions and grievances faced by the transgender community in their interactions with law enforcement.
