The Islamabad High Court reserves verdict on Bushra Bibi's petition to transfer from Bani Gala sub-jail. The Toshakhana scandal reveals corruption in the government, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has reserved its verdict on a petition filed by Bushra Bibi, the spouse of former prime minister Imran Khan, seeking her transfer from the Bani Gala sub-jail to the Adiala jail. The court heard arguments from both sides, with Bushra's lawyer highlighting the swift process of declaring the residence a sub-jail and the overcrowding issue at Adiala jail.

Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb posed critical questions regarding the decision to make Bani Gala a sub-jail and the treatment of other female inmates. The government's lawyer stated that Bushra was transferred to Bani Gala due to security threats in jail, to which the judge expressed skepticism about confining a prisoner to their property without consent.

Bushra Bibi was placed under house arrest at her Bani Gala residence on January 31 after being convicted in the Toshakhana case. She challenged the decision to confine her at home and expressed concerns about her safety and the unequal treatment she was receiving. The court was reminded that both Bushra and Imran Khan were sentenced to 14 years in jail and fined heavily in the Toshakhana case.

The Toshakhana scandal involves allegations of Khan selling state gifts for personal gain, including expensive watches and other valuables. The case has drawn attention to the misuse of power and corruption within the government. The Electoral Commission found Khan guilty of corrupt practices, leading to legal proceedings against him.

Established in 1974, Toshakhana stores valuable gifts given to officials by foreign dignitaries. The scandal has raised questions about transparency and accountability in government dealings, highlighting the need for stricter regulations and oversight.
