An election tribunal at the Sindh High Court orders a recount in NA-231 constituency to address irregularities and discrepancies, ensuring transparency and fairness in the electoral process.

An election tribunal at the Sindh High Court has directed the provisional election commissioner to appoint a returning officer for a thorough examination and recount of all ballots cast at four polling stations in the National Assembly constituency NA-231 (Malir-III). This decision came in response to an election petition filed by Khalid Mehmood Ali, a candidate supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), challenging the victory of Abdul Hakeem Baloch of the Pakistan Peoples Party in NA-231.

The petitioner's counsel highlighted the need for a recount due to a narrow margin of 389 votes between the petitioner and the declared winner. The tribunal acknowledged discrepancies in the vote count, especially at polling stations where irregularities were observed.

Concerns were raised about certain ballot papers being classified as 'tendered votes' without proper verification, potentially affecting the final result. The tribunal also noted instances of votes being inaccurately attributed to candidates, raising doubts about the electoral process's integrity.

As a result, the tribunal deemed it essential to conduct a recount of votes from the specified polling stations to ensure transparency and fairness. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was instructed to appoint an independent officer to oversee the recount and submit a detailed report within three weeks.

After the recount, candidates will have seven days to raise objections, allowing for a thorough review of the revised results. This decision emphasizes the significance of maintaining electoral integrity and addressing any discrepancies that could impact election outcomes.

The order for a vote recount in NA-231 reflects the commitment to fair and transparent electoral processes. By addressing concerns of irregularities and discrepancies, the tribunal's decision aims to uphold the integrity of the democratic system and ensure that election results accurately reflect the will of the voters.
