Federal Energy Minister and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister collaborate to address electricity theft, emphasizing the need for provincial cooperation and strategic interventions to enhance power sector performance in the region.

Federal Energy Minister Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Laghari has reached out to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to discuss strategies aimed at curbing electricity theft in the region. Laghari emphasized the importance of providing support to the police in order to effectively tackle this issue. He highlighted the significant losses incurred by Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) and Tribal Areas Electric Supply Company (TESCO), amounting to an estimated 188 billion rupees for the current financial year.

The Federal Minister's letter underscored the critical role of provincial cooperation in addressing the sustainability challenges faced by the power sector. Laghari pointed out the need for enhanced government enforcement in areas under TESCO's jurisdiction, suggesting that the provincial government develop a comprehensive recovery plan for these regions. Additionally, he proposed the potential takeover of power supply operations in TESCO areas by the provincial government as a viable solution.
