Climate change poses a significant challenge to the world, and Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman emphasized the urgent need for action during the opening session of the International Climate Change Conference at Grand Asian University Sialkot (GAUS). Governor Rehman highlighted that Pakistan is among the top 10 countries most impacted by climate change, experiencing rising temperatures, melting glaciers, and deforestation. He pointed out that environmental issues in neighboring India are affecting eastern border areas of Pakistan like Lahore and Bahawalpur.

To address these challenges, Governor Rehman stressed the necessity for reforms across all sectors, including industry, agriculture, and transport, along with the adoption of modern technology. He commended the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, for implementing robust policies to tackle climate change. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif's advocacy on the global stage further raised awareness about Pakistan's climate change concerns.

During the conference, the importance of proactive measures to mitigate climate change effects was underscored. Governor Rehman planted a sapling on the university grounds symbolizing hope for the country's development and stability. The event was attended by Vice Chancellor GAUS Dr. Mujahid Kamran, Chairman Board of Governors Muhammad Islam, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Zulqarnain, along with teachers and students, reflecting a collective commitment to addressing climate change challenges.
