The Punjab government has taken a significant step by enforcing Section 144 across the province due to the prevailing law and order situation. This decision comes in response to the planned nationwide protests by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, demanding the release of their leader, Imran Khan.

Section 144, as issued by the Home Department, is now in effect and will remain so for the next seven days. This section grants authorities the power to issue orders in the public interest, which may include the prohibition of certain activities for a specified period.

The order cites security threats and the potential targeting of gatherings by terrorists and miscreants, which could endanger public safety and order. While the specific reasons for the ban were not disclosed, the urgency for immediate action under Section 144 was emphasized to prevent certain activities in Punjab, such as assemblies, sit-ins, rallies, and protests.

PTI leaders have raised concerns over multiple police raids on their residences and offices in Khanewal, condemning the government's actions. Leader of the Opposition, Omar Ayub, questioned the constitutionality of the Section 144 imposition in the National Assembly, while the Deputy Speaker considered it a provincial matter, expressing hope for a resolution.

PTI spokesperson Raoof Hasan criticized the ban as a 'shameful act' by the government, alleging it was driven by fear of Imran Khan's influence. Hasan expressed confidence in Imran Khan's eventual success and the people's support in achieving their objectives.

The enforcement of Section 144 in Punjab reflects the government's efforts to maintain law and order amidst escalating tensions. While the decision has sparked controversy and criticism, it underscores the importance of balancing public safety with the right to protest. As the situation unfolds, it remains crucial for all parties involved to prioritize dialogue and peaceful resolution to avoid further escalation of tensions.
