Locals in Kandhkot protest against open manholes, demanding prompt action from authorities to ensure public safety and prevent potential accidents.

Locals of Kandhkot took to the streets in a protest against the municipal and district administration due to the alarming issue of uncovered manholes in the city. The demonstrators emphasized the urgent need for the authorities to address this issue before any tragic incidents occur. Open manholes scattered across various parts of the city are posing serious threats to the safety of residents, pedestrians, motorcyclists, and especially minor children.

Residents from areas such as Haibat Road, Cinema Road, Gul Sher Mohallah, Old Beaf Market, Kashmore Road, and Degree College Road have expressed their grievances regarding the inconvenience caused by these open manholes. They criticized both the municipal and district administrations for their failure to cover the manholes promptly. Many damaged manhole covers have not been replaced for a long time, exacerbating the risks faced by the community.

Furthermore, residents highlighted the lack of warning signs near the uncovered manholes, making the situation even more hazardous, especially during rainy seasons when the open manholes are submerged under water, posing a significant danger to commuters. Despite repeated complaints to the authorities, no concrete actions have been taken to address this pressing issue.

The residents' frustration was evident as they pointed out the negligence of the concerned departments in ensuring public safety. Efforts to reach the Tehsil Municipal Officer (TMO) of Kandhkot for a response were unsuccessful, as his cellphone remained switched off, reflecting a lack of accountability on the part of the local administration.

The protest in Kandhkot sheds light on the critical need for immediate action to cover the open manholes and enhance safety measures in the city. The authorities must prioritize the well-being of the residents and address this infrastructure issue promptly to prevent any potential accidents or harm to the community.
