Man dies in Karachi building collapse tragedy

In a tragic incident in North Nazimabad, Karachi, a man lost his life and four others sustained injuries when a portion of a three-storey building collapsed. The victims were sitting outside shops on the ground floor of Jan Plaza in Block K when the incident occurred. According to a Rescue-1122 official, the balcony of a third-floor apartment collapsed, causing debris to hit five men who were outside a medical store. The injured individuals were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where one of them, identified as Munnan Baig, aged 50, was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Following the incident, rescue teams safely evacuated the building's residents. A team from the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) inspected the site and determined that the building, which showed signs of age and structural damage, was unsafe for habitation. Consequently, the SBCA sealed the shops on the ground floor and declared the building 'unfit for living'.

Central SSP Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqui stated that the police would file a case based on the complaint lodged by the victim's family, who indicated their intention to visit the police station after the burial of their loved one.

The tragic building collapse in North Nazimabad serves as a stark reminder of the importance of regular structural assessments and maintenance to prevent such incidents. Authorities must ensure strict enforcement of building safety regulations to safeguard the lives of residents and passersby.
