The Punjab police have ramped up efforts to combat the spread of drugs in the province as part of the Drug Free Punjab campaign. In the latest push against narcotics, more than 300 raids were conducted in the past 24 hours, resulting in the arrest of 125 individuals and the seizure of 52 kilograms of charas and 1346 liters of liquor. This crackdown is part of a broader initiative that has seen a total of 17251 raids conducted since February 26, leading to the arrest of 8631 suspects and the recovery of significant quantities of drugs.

IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has emphasized the need to intensify the campaign against those who endanger the youth with drug trafficking. He has called for a thorough investigation to expose all individuals involved in the drug supply chain and ensure they face justice. Dr. Anwar also stressed the importance of targeting major players engaged in inter-provincial drug trafficking with a firm hand.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has completed training for 50 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) on modern policing methods, including the use of artificial intelligence-based technologies. The training focused on leveraging safe city technology, such as the Virtual Women Police Station and traffic violation detection systems. This initiative aims to equip officers with the necessary tools to combat crime effectively and provide enhanced services to the public.

Chief Administration Officer Shoaib Mahmood highlighted the shift towards utilizing artificial intelligence in law enforcement globally and emphasized the importance of modernizing investigation techniques for crime prevention. The training provided by PSCA will enable police officers to respond more efficiently to emergencies and deliver improved services to the community.

The recent crackdown on drug trafficking in Punjab, coupled with the training of police officers in modern policing methods, reflects a concerted effort to enhance public safety and combat the drug menace in the region. By leveraging technology and adopting innovative approaches, law enforcement agencies are striving to create a safer environment for all residents of Punjab.
