Former PML-N member Miftah Ismail unveils plans for Awaam Pakistan party launch led by ex-PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, focusing on public engagement in governance and gaining support from prominent personalities.

Former Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) member Miftah Ismail has revealed plans for the establishment of a fresh political entity named Awaam Pakistan, under the leadership of ex-Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. The inauguration of the party is scheduled for July 6 in Islamabad, with Abbasi assuming the role of the first convener. A key objective of Awaam Pakistan, as emphasized by Ismail, is to revamp the governance structure by giving significant importance to public participation in decision-making processes.

The formation of Awaam Pakistan has garnered the support of various notable personalities, including former PML-N leaders such as Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan Abbasi, Javed Abbasi, Syed Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Rana Zahid Tauseef, Zahid Binnouri, and Sardar Anwar Soomro. Additionally, Dr Zafar Mirza and Sheikh Salahuddin are expected to join the party. Abbasi, who held the position of Prime Minister from August 2017 to May 2018, intends to contest future elections under the banner of Awaam Pakistan.

Abbasi's decision to initiate a new political party aligns with a prevailing trend in Pakistani politics, where prominent figures like Jahangir Tareen and Pervez Khattak have established their own political entities subsequent to their departure from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Tareen established the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) last year, while Khattak introduced PTI Parliamentarians in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) with the inclusion of several defectors from PTI.

The emergence of Awaam Pakistan under the leadership of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi marks a significant development in the political landscape of Pakistan. With a focus on enhancing public engagement in governance and the backing of notable figures, the party's entry into the political arena sets the stage for potential shifts in the country's political dynamics.
