Telecom companies in Pakistan collaborate with FBR to block mobile SIMs of non-filers, promoting tax compliance and revenue collection.

Telecom companies in Pakistan have taken a significant step towards tax compliance by agreeing to block the mobile SIMs of over 500,000 non-filers. This decision comes as part of a collaborative effort with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to ensure adherence to national tax laws.

The Chairman of FBR, Amjed Zubair Tiwana, has confirmed that telecom companies will swiftly verify and block the mobile sims of individuals who have not filed their income tax returns. In a recent meeting between telecom representatives and Chairman FBR, a commitment to full compliance with legal requirements was reiterated.

Messages will be dispatched to non-filers, urging them to submit their income tax returns promptly. Once the FBR clears the tax status of individuals, mobile sims belonging to compliant tax return filers will be reinstated, allowing them to resume normal mobile services.

This proactive measure by telecom companies underscores the importance of tax compliance and contributes to the broader goal of enhancing revenue collection for the country. By leveraging technology and collaboration with regulatory bodies, the telecom sector is playing a pivotal role in promoting financial transparency and accountability among citizens.
