The Malaysian High Commissioner emphasizes the need to boost bilateral trade with Pakistan, focusing on opportunities in the halal industry, educational exchanges, and workforce collaboration for shared prosperity and growth.

The Malaysian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Mohammad Azhar Bin Mazlan, has highlighted the need to boost bilateral trade between Malaysia and Pakistan. Currently standing at $1.8 billion, the trade volume falls significantly short of its potential, which is estimated to be $12 billion annually. Bin Mazlan urged the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) to take proactive steps in strengthening trade ties between the two nations.

One of the key areas of opportunity identified by Bin Mazlan is the halal industry. He encouraged private sectors in both Malaysia and Pakistan to collaborate for mutual benefit. Malaysia has pledged full support to help Pakistan emerge as a regional hub for the halal industry, presenting a promising avenue for economic growth and cooperation.

Furthermore, Bin Mazlan highlighted Malaysia's commitment to providing a conducive Islamic environment for Pakistani students. Currently, over 5,000 Pakistani students are pursuing education in Malaysian universities, fostering cultural exchange and educational opportunities between the two countries. Additionally, with more than 200,000 Pakistani workers in Malaysia, the strategic partnership between Pakistan and Malaysia continues to strengthen.

Former President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Zubair Ahmed Malik, emphasized the longstanding economic ties between Malaysia and Pakistan, underscoring the importance of further collaboration. Zafar Bakhtawari from the United Business Group emphasized the significance of granting Pakistan full dialogue partner status with ASEAN States to bolster trade relations and foster economic growth.

The discussions led by Mohammad Azhar Bin Mazlan and other key stakeholders underscore the mutual commitment to enhancing trade relations between Malaysia and Pakistan. With a focus on leveraging opportunities in the halal industry, educational exchanges, and workforce collaboration, both countries are poised to strengthen their economic partnership for shared prosperity and growth.
