Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's Prison Reform Initiative

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif of Punjab has unveiled a comprehensive plan to enhance the prison system in the province. The chief minister's initiative includes the establishment of new jails in rural areas, the development of women's jails in Faisalabad and Rawalpindi, and the modernization of existing detention facilities.

During a recent meeting focusing on prison reforms, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed authorities to draft a detailed proposal for the construction of these new jails. She also approved a project to upgrade Bakshi Khanas and lock-ups across Punjab. The chief minister's proactive approach aims to address concerns about external influences on inmates and enhance security measures within the prisons.

Key officials present at the meeting included Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Information & Culture Minister Azma Zahid Bukhari, and MPA Sania Ashiq, along with Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Home Secretary Nurul Amin Mengal, and IG Prisons Farooq Nazir.

In response to reports of a student being mistreated by a cleric at a seminary in Jaranwala, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has swiftly taken action. She has requested a detailed report from the IG Police and emphasized the importance of providing the affected student with the necessary medical care. The chief minister has also instructed that legal measures be taken against those responsible for the student's abuse, reaffirming a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of mistreatment in educational settings.
