Chitral Valley in Pakistan has been facing severe disruptions in its communication system due to heavy rains and snowfall. The ongoing torrential rains since last Friday, coupled with snowfall on the mountain peaks and in Kalash village, have led to the closure of various routes and roads, affecting the connectivity of the entire valley. Deputy Commissioner of Chitral, Muhammad Imran Khan, has assured the public that necessary measures are being taken to ensure their safety amidst the challenging weather conditions.

The adverse weather has caused flooding in different streams, resulting in landslides and the falling of heavy boulders from the mountains. As a consequence, the only land route connecting Chitral to the rest of the country, including the Lowari tunnel, has been closed to all traffic. Additionally, roads in Upper Chitral, Lutkoh, and Kalash Valley have also been shut down to safeguard the public from potential dangers.

The district administration, along with officials from various departments such as TMAs and NHAs, are working tirelessly day and night to reopen the roads and restore communication systems. Villages like Chamarkan have been severely impacted by the flooding, leading to the destruction of crucial infrastructure like link roads, pedestrian bridges, irrigation streams, and water supply pipelines. Despite the challenges, efforts are underway to restore road connections to different areas, with guidelines issued to the public to avoid unnecessary travel during this time.

DC Muhammad Imran Khan highlighted the collaborative efforts of PDMA, TMA, and NHAs in using heavy machinery to clear the main and link roads, aiming to facilitate the reopening of vital transportation routes in the affected regions.

The situation in Chitral Valley remains critical as the region grapples with the aftermath of heavy rains and snowfall. The concerted efforts of the authorities and relevant departments are crucial in mitigating the impact of the natural calamities and restoring normalcy in the affected areas.
