The government and PTI clash over the upcoming May 9 anniversary, with tensions rising as both sides prepare for commemorations and political mobilizations. President Zardari denounces the violence of the past and calls for peace.

The government is gearing up for a special cabinet meeting today to address the upcoming event at the Jinnah Convention Centre. Simultaneously, the opposition party PTI is planning rallies nationwide, alleging that police are detaining their supporters to hinder their protests.

In response to the first anniversary of the May 9 violence, the government has chosen to stand in solidarity with the martyrs and their families. Conversely, PTI is mobilizing gatherings across the country to show support for their leader Imran Khan, who was briefly detained on the same day last year, triggering widespread unrest.

Under the theme 'May 9, never again,' the government is observing the day through various activities. To counter PTI's demonstrations, authorities in Islamabad and Punjab have enforced Section 144. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will preside over a special cabinet meeting, while the information ministry will host an event at the Jinnah Convention Centre to pay tribute to the martyrs and their families.

Leading up to the anniversary, media outlets are broadcasting advertisements recalling the violent protests and attacks on military installations that transpired last year. President Asif Ali Zardari has denounced the events of May 9 as a dark chapter in Pakistan's history, stressing that any instigation of violence will not be tolerated.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has labeled the May 9 incidents as a plot to disrupt the country's progress and jeopardize its defense and integrity. He asserted that the events were orchestrated to debilitate the nation and undermine its defense capabilities.

PTI spokesperson Raoof Hasan has alleged a crackdown on PTI supporters nationwide, with many individuals being apprehended to thwart their protests. The party intends to organize rallies at every provincial assembly constituency level, showcasing placards featuring Imran Khan's image and 'Prisoner Number 804' inscribed on them.

Separately, the JUI-F, led by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, will hold protest rallies and public gatherings on May 9 at various locations throughout the country. Maulana Fazlur Rehman clarified that their planned events are unrelated to the incidents of May 9.

As the nation prepares to mark the first anniversary of the May 9 violence, tensions between the government and opposition parties remain palpable. While the government aims to commemorate the day with solemnity and remembrance, PTI and other groups are mobilizing to assert their political agendas. The coming days are crucial as Pakistan navigates through this period of reflection and political activism.
