The International Centre for Migration Policy Development expands its Migrant Resource Centre in Peshawar, Pakistan, offering personalized services to promote safe and sustainable migration practices.

The International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) has expanded its reach in Pakistan by inaugurating a new Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) in Peshawar. This center, the third of its kind in the country, joins existing facilities in Islamabad and Lahore. The collaboration between ICMPD and the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment aims to facilitate safe and regulated migration, combat trafficking and smuggling, and aid in the reintegration of returning migrants.

At the MRCs, individuals can access a variety of services designed to support them throughout the migration process. These services include personalized counseling for potential migrants, community outreach programs to raise awareness about migrant rights, and partnerships with different organizations to enhance capacity building. Additionally, the centers offer assistance with visa applications, legal guidance, language and cultural orientation sessions, as well as essential support services such as housing and healthcare.

One distinctive feature of the MRCs in Pakistan is the provision of pre-departure orientation sessions at Protectorate of Emigrants Offices. This initiative ensures that migrants are well-prepared for their overseas employment opportunities. By integrating MRC services into the official migration process, the Government of Pakistan is furthering its commitment to sustainable migration practices.

The Director General of the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment has underscored the vital role played by MRCs in helping migrants navigate the complexities of migration and adhere to immigration regulations. The establishment of the new MRC in Peshawar is expected to offer enhanced support to migrants from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, ensuring their well-being and protection throughout their migration journey.

With a significant outreach of over 62.8 million individuals through various services and campaigns, the MRCs in Pakistan have been pivotal in promoting awareness about safe migration practices. The launch of the Peshawar MRC is set to further amplify this awareness, encouraging informed decision-making at the grassroots level in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Emphasizing the importance of sustainability, the MRCs aim to create a lasting impact on migrants' lives, foster resilience, and contribute to sustainable development goals. The collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment, and the European Union have been instrumental in achieving this milestone.
